The approach
Front entries take more traffic than any other part of a garden and get the least design attention. The brief here was straightforward: a surface that suits the age of the house, handles daily use, and sheds water away from the threshold.
Materials
Irregular stone laid as crazy paving, cut and fitted on site so the joints stay tight and consistent rather than drifting wide in the corners. Crazy paving is slow work — every piece is placed individually — which is exactly why it is worth doing properly.
Detailing
Levels were set so water runs clear of the entry, and the paving meets the existing step and brickwork without packing or awkward slivers at the edges. That junction is where this kind of work usually fails.
